Jonny's Camp 2016

2016 Jonny Bowman Lacrosse Camp
“Unity is strength... when there is teamwork and collaboration, wonderful things can be achieved.” -m.stepanck
Three consecutive days of extremes..... Heat, Humidity, Camaraderie & Collaboration
To begin camp each athlete introduced themselves and what school/town they represented and from their created “Camp Rules” to ensure that camp was a success!
Our amazing Camp Counselors facilitated multiple rotations each day that built on skills and concepts while exemplifying what it means to be a positive role model and team member!
Day 1 they shared their knowledge on passing, catching, shooting, dodging, grounders and goalie work.
Day 2 was all about “Team Spirit & Team Building”. Rotations included team building activities such as The Human Knot, The Perfect Square, The Blind Folded Mine Field, All Together, Blanket Volleyball, Earth Ball Challenge, FFEACH, and Let Me in the Circle. Each station emphasized not only what it means to be a good team member but also how important communication is on and off the field or court. Camp counselors encouraged campers to understand how every member of the team has a special role and that no one should ever be excluded. They also helped all to understand that how you communicate can strongly influence the success of the team. All were challenged to only communicate using “Motivation, Inspiration and Encouragement” throughout the three days.
Day 3 was Wild N Wacky Wednesday! Athletes tested their skills by completing various rotations including a Parachute Race, Golden Nugget Challenge, an Obstacle Course, offense/defense Cut & Shoot, and The Gladiator. We were very fortunate to have Guest Coach Libby Corsi assist us with camp. She played college lacrosse for Babson, has coached multiple levels up through U15 as well as reffed the game. Thank you so much Coach Corsi for sharing your time and insight with us!
Camp concluded with a fun opportunity for campers to “Dunk their Coach/Camp Counselor” and most importantly understand why they were there. MML is honored to dedicate this lacrosse camp to Jonny Bowman and plant a Hickory Tree in his memory. A young man who Inspired so many, Encouraged All and Motivated the young and old alike to work hard, strive for greatness, and always remain positive through the hardest of challenges. He lives in all of our hearts and through his passion for life and lacrosse, we will honor, cherish and create his Jonny Bowman Lacrosse Camp Legacy.
Special thank you to Coach Rowell, Coach Simpson, Coach Wilson and Coach Ouellette for all of the time, energy and hard work that you each put in on and off the field to make camp an amazing opportunity for all!
A heart felt THANK YOU to each and every Camp Counselor that shared their time and insight, amazing team spirit and positive attitude through the heat and humidity. It was an honor to work with each of you!
Thank you to RSU 19 and the grant provided by the State of Maine that allowed campers and counselors up through the age of 18 to finish the day with lunch and keep them strong! As well as for the opportunity to use the field at Somerset Valley Middle School.
Thank you to Darcy Rollins for providing perfectly timed refreshments for the campers that helped keep those smiles on each of their faces!
Thank you to the Hartland Fire Department for allowing us to share in the fun of their Dunk Tank!
Thank you to the families that shared their Pop Up Tents for all to get reprieve from the sun! Thank you as well to all of the families that allowed their son/daughter to join us for three days!
Thank you to Skillins Greenhouse, the Rollins Family and the Baker family for the beautiful Hickory Trees that will be planted in Jonny's honor.
Thank you to all for making the 2016 Jonny Bowman Lacrosse Camp a success and we look forward to seeing you all next summer!
