Sunday 6/1 1:00 and 3:00 @ Thornton Academy vs Saco
Driving Directions to Thornton Academy Hill Stadium:
Thornton Academy is located at 438 Main Street in Saco, Maine.
From the north or south on the Maine Turnpike, take exit 36 to get on I-195. Go through the toll booth and stay on I-195 about a mile and take the exit marked Route 1 South (the same exit as Saco's Main Street). Drive about half a mile and Thornton Academy will be on the right. There are campus entrances from Route 1 / Main Street and from Fairfield Street, as you can see on the campus map below.
Parking
There are marked visitor spots along the main campus driveway in front of the Main Building, Hyde Library, and Garland Auditorium. If these areas are full, feel free to park at the other locations . Do not park on the grass or in spaces designated for school buses.
And, just a couple of reminders for the field to pass on to players and parents... No cleats on the track. There is a carpet the boys can use to enter the field. Once there, we ask that no one walks on the track with their cleats. Also, no colored sports drinks on the field. Water only as the dyes in the colored drinks will eventually discolor the artificial turf.

Concessions
Help pay for the referees! Need concession helpers! Tuesday, May 27th is Team Presentation and pictures at Somerset from 4:45 - 6:30. It would help pay for referees if we could sell hotdogs and drinks; which we already have. Gretchen will bring her portable grill. Who can provide a big cooler to hold ice & drinks? Who can provide a tent? Who can help me?

Procedures
It has been brought to my attention that our communication system did not work on Monday to inform all parents of the middle school 6/7/8 game cancellation. I am sorry.
What follows is my explanation of why, if you do not have ready access to computer service, it is your responsibility to contact someone, repeatedly if necessary, and learn about changes.
I watched and communicated about the possibility of cancellation throughout the day. I communicated by email, website and Facebook. I called as many people as I could which I do not want to do. The telephone is cumbersome and inefficient. Most people are not home. I do not have a child on that team.
The final cancellation was announced @ Warsaw Middle School and Somerset Valley Middle School. I know those phone numbers by heart. I was in my car tending to our child that does not play lacrosse. I am sorry to students @ Sebasticook and Etna-Dixmont.
The process was difficult to do because the notice came to me five minutes prior to the close of the school day AND just ten minutes earlier PenBay had elected to change the location but not to cancel. It was harried and confusing.
People were missed and I am sorry.
If Board Members or Coaches are tied up making thirty phone calls (often from places of their employment and livelihood) that is problematic.
We need more than five adults to attend monthly open Board of Director's Meetings. (These are held, and have been held, for a year, on the first Thursday evening of every month @ PCC.)
Yesterday I needed players and parents, at the last moment, to line fields. There is no mechanism to shift that work. There are plenty of automated mechanisms to avoid calling 30 players.
You can have a connection buddy.
Many people text, email and call me.
And you might need to check in more than once on a rainy day.
Please, additionally forgive me when I make mistakes. I will, do and did.
Recreational clubs run on industry, commitment and parent power. They require work. It is important, as a new club, to create procedures which outlive the originators. I will retire from President at the close of next year 2015. We need policy's and procures independent of my tenure.
We got a GREAT thing going....! I am very sorry people drove unnecessarily to Camden on Monday. Such mistakes present yet another learning opportunity and I am so willing to learn more. Your help, knowledge and contribution are welcomed. Come to our next meeting, which must be moved to June 12th, 6:00pm PCC, because of a Warsaw Middle School Concert.

Gretchen has called, emailed and texted coaches regarding games this afternoon. We have not heard, at 1:00pm, of any changes.
That said, at this time, games are still expected to be played. The league suggests they make a determination by 2:00pm.

Middle School Thunder gives a BIG Hats off to the High School Thunder. The high school players, in an effort to be safe and considerate neighbors, stood guard over the end line in the middle school game yesterday. They watched and worked to prevent errant balls from entering a neighboring yard. Without their help yesterday's game would not have been possible.
THANK YOU HIGH SCHOOL PLAYERS.
It is nonstop, the manner in which athletes give and receive support. Thanks so much for giving back as you have been given to. Sometimes the reasoning behind administrative directives is obtuse but the directives are important. They may appear a waste of time but I am too busy to waste anyone's time.
The middle school players are learning fast and furiously. Thanks for encouraging their play.
We have such a great group of innovative, entrepreneurial, enthusiastic, creative, talented and generous athletes. Your commitment keeps others committed. Thanks.
Hats Off High School.

Middle Schooll 6/7/8
Dear Middle School Boys Team Parents,
The middle school 6/7/8 boys team has an away game @ the Camden Snow Bowl on Monday May 19th @ 5:30pm. This probably means leaving near 3:30pm. This team has traveled to us. It is our obligation to reciprocate and travel to them to play.
If your child is planning to play on May 19th but you cannot drive your child, please act on your child’s behalf and arrange a ride. Remember other team members depend on your child playing in both home and away games.
There are five or six parents that regularly drive and are often willing to carry a few extras. Although they are more than willing to assist it is helpful if you call them in advance and arrange meeting times, meeting places and transportation.
Please think ahead. We have two awesome opportunities upcoming.
The middle school is scheduled to play @ Thornton Academy vs Saco x 2 on June 1st. (Mr. Wilson may not be available to drive this day.) Thornton Academy is a learning play day. The facility is world class. The beach is close by. There’s a local IMAX theater. It is a great field trip and cultural opportunity. The first wave of middle school players, playing there in previous years, benefitted from such an excursion in so many ways. It is a two hour drive.
Quick on the heels of the Saco adventure is the all-day Ted Hellier Tournament in South Portland, Maine on Saturday, June 7th. Seventy middle school and JV high school programs will gather. It is a day full of lacrosse and kids everywhere. If you cannot drive your child please initiate a process to see that your child has a ride with another parent.
There have been a few schedule changes and I expect there will be a few more. Please check the website to keep on top of these. http://midmainelacrosse.com/html/6-7-8_grade_boys.html
Recreation clubs often develop into school programs but we are not there yet. In the meantime, we must drive the kids. MidMaine Lacrosse has grown so quickly. There is obviously a great community need and benefit around lacrosse. I need your help on behalf of your child. You do not have to drive but you must assume responsibility to arranging ride-share.
Please note-if the meeting time is after school perhaps near 4:00pm-someone must supervise athletes that stay after school waiting for pick up.
I have attached a list of team members and most of the info I have for reaching their parents. Please help out.
Thank you,
Gretchen Baker

Thank you, Mr. Kevin Bowman.
Many Hats Off to the Mr. Kevin Bowman, parent volunteers and the High School Lacrosse Team (!!!) for beginning the job of field reparation @ Somerset Valley Middle School. There's still, as I hear, a bit more work to do, as (if) the weather shifts....but a great start...a super sign of good faith. SVMS has bent over backwards to support MidMaine Lacrosse. It is a both a privilege and a responsibility to use the fields.....thanks all for showing how much we value such an opportunity. Be poised and at the ready when called back for a second work session. In the meantime, play smart, cagey and fierce lacrosse this evening on the turf fields @ Thomas College vs. Winslow High School tonight @ 5pm.

BIG Hats off to MML Middle School Boys. They drove a healthy distance tonight to "Grow the Game". Thank you for honoring our commitment to Gray/New Gloucester. Lacrosse has grown so much in our area-we should not have to make such long drives next year. But people did it for us. We are giving back. Next year, as we have been teaching/learning about scheduling AND more teams exist closer.....we can stay closer to home. Thank you for your investment and energy this evening. Thank you hard working Dads and Moms for driving and accommodating. Remember the turf on Wednesday @ Thomas in Waterville. Discuss your concert and practice with your coaches.
Middle School Boys
Middle School Boys Lacrosse Game Wednesday 5/7 has been changed. It is still at 5:30pm BUT it will be held @ Thomas College on the turf field. We will let the field @ SVMS rest and dry. We will play @ 5:30pm @ Thomas College. Please call another team member and begin arranging transportation among yourselves. Parents and coaches often don't mind giving rides but please initiate the request.

Thank you
MidMaine Lacrosse hosted a 12 team Lacrosse Tegenhondi Tournament today. I suspect many think it was about lacrosse. I suppose it was, in part, about lacrosse. I actually know very little about lacrosse. I think today was about team building and team work. Layer upon layer of team work…..
There’s the team that Breac started with and from whom we borrow ideas Gardiner. Thank you Gardiner Lacrosse and Gardiner Youth Hockey.
There is the team work required to organize a program and run an event. Thank you MidMaine Lacrosse Members and Board of Directors.
There’s a solid team of support from Somerset Valley Middle School and Warsaw Middle School. There is consistent, encouraging, practical, financial, growing and generous support from the Town of Palmyra. There will be team work and support from many more as they learn of the popularity of the program and see how it benefits our youth.
There are the teams of our athletes. There are the teams of MS players and HS players supporting each other and the growth of their program. There’s the example that these athletes set for our newest 5/6 team and 2-5 program. There’s the coming together of students from home school and three school districts on our team. Ours is a rare teaming of school districts. There is the gathering and friendships of teams from away but from within our geographical area. Thank you, Winslow HS, Lawrence HS, Mt. Blue HS, Mtn. Valley HS and MS, Eastern Maine Youth Rec, Saco Youth Rec (x3) and Central Maine Rec. for sharing today.
There were outstanding examples of team work as we negotiated wet fields and moved the tournament from a two field plan to one field. The grace displayed by participating teams made the tournament successful for all.
Today there were the teams of purchasers, chefs, photographers, financial wizards, referees, field ready-ers and repairers, artists, bake sale bakers, boutique sales representatives, cheerleaders, entrepreneurs, movers, sweepers, sign posters, transfer station workers. Thank you very much.
And there are the dedicated and caring coaches. Coaches Bolliger, Mitchell, Boreham, Henaire, Rowell, Hubbard, Wilson, Dickerson, Gould and Simpson. We thank you very very much. The manner in which you share time, energy and effort is exceptional.
The US Air Force participated in the events today. The US Air Force is a critical member of our team every day.
I was so impressed with the startup team. Group of teens arrived, even before the food supply, and were ready and waiting to assist adult team players. I was even more impressed throughout the day. Every single time I requested assistance, and much was spontaneously offered throughout day, teen members of MidMaine Lacrosse sprang to help. The cleanup job, completed by tired and mud covered athletes was inspiring. I was proud to be a member of such a team. Thanks to recent weather, we did not leave the fields (yet) better than we found them but we may have left the grounds overall in a cleaner state. MidMaine Lacrosse players picked up every small piece of trash they could fine on the grounds of Somerset Valley Middle School.
There are poignant team moments. Mr. Bruce Brown’s trumpeting delivery of the United States National Anthem was mesmerizing. He brought many to tears with the excellence of his delivery. We were so privileged that he agreed to participate on our team this day. Ms. Kristen Gilbert, Principal from Warsaw Middle School, worked tirelessly timing field events. She began the day directing a spelling project. It was amazing how she spear headed team after team in our photograph spelling lacrosse. Thank you Mr. Brown and Ms. Gilbert.
Our teams are of made of athletes with natural talents and developing skills. Our teams are made of athletes with financial and cultural advantages as well as athletes from lessor opportunity. Our athletes cheered each other on one and all.
While I am positive I am neglecting to mention, acknowledge and thank additional teams and team layering...and I recognize that we will benefit from team feedback about what went well and what we can improve upon…I am beat. I ask that all wait 24 hours before team players and parents deliver negative feedback. There are many moments of opportunity and pride associated with the role I play as ‘President of MidMaine Lacrosse.’ There are some dubious honors to being ‘President’ of MidMaine Lacrosse. I think, as I cleaned the bathrooms, three different times during the Tegenhondi Tournament, I might be spared, constructive team feedback, for at least 24 hours.
And, in turn, I promise not to have any grand new ideas about colossal adventure for 24 hours. (Smiles...)
It was a wonderful day. Ready yourselves for field repair industry.
(More smiles and perhaps bug spray...)

The "game" with Gray/New Gloucester is still sort-of on. It has been transformed into a clinical scrimmage. Some of our players may miss. One or both of our coaches may miss but if you can come....let me know. Our game was to be their first game ever. They were very disappointed that maybe we weren't able to come...so we are coming. Anyone that is free is coming. We need available parents to drive. We were brand new not so very long ago. And we are still having growing pains but we are learning together.
If you can make the game let me know. If you can drive let me know. Thank you. Their coach was so relieved to think we cared and would try.
